How to get sorted, step by step
- Check your passport has 6 months validity and 2 blank pages.
- Apply at evisa.gov.vn at least 5 working days before you travel — allow longer around Tet (Lunar New Year).
- Upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Any error in your name or passport number means starting again.
- Print your approved e-visa and keep it with your passport.

What catches Australians out
Hundreds of unofficial 'Vietnam visa' sites charge two to five times the real fee. Only evisa.gov.vn is official.
The e-visa lists a specific entry port. Arriving somewhere else can cause problems — check the port matches your ticket.
Australian International Driving Permits are not valid in Vietnam. Riding a scooter here is illegal for most Australians and voids insurance.
